Strides is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

A capital campaign to secure a permanent home for Strides Therapeutic Horsemanship Center changing the lives of kids and adults with special needs, at risk youth and wounded veterans through the healing power of the horse.

Strides was established in Tri-Cities, WA June 2006. Because we rent our facilities, we have had to move several times. We are at capacity at our current facility and want to future-proof our organization through buying our permanent home.

2022

Increase HORSES & HEROES program to 10 riders
Add 30 riders to ADAPTIVE RIDING program
Build “A Visit with HOPE” outreach programs for SENIORS

Build “Education Days at Strides” educational field trips to school age children, contracted with TriCities, WA school districts

2023

Continue growth at rate of 2 riders per session. Hire two part time riding instructors to handle program expansion.

2024

Maintain programs and focus on final year of Capital Campaign

2025

Maintain existing program: focus on locating new facility and moving in

2026

Expand hours of operation and explore new programs in areas currently underserved (Mental health, PTSD, Anxiety, Drug Rehabilitation program, Cancer treatment and survivor and sex-trafficking survivors)

OUR MISSION

THE STRIDES IMPACT

From 2006 to 2021 Strides has grown from # riders to # riders.

Per program, this breaks down to:

  • 12 Veterans (this number will rise to over 30 in 2018)

  • 55 At Risk Youth

  • 81 Kids in the Educational Horse Camp Program in partnership with KUA Charter School

  • 234 Special needs/disabled kids and adults

This computes to 3299 hours of service provided in 2021.

Equine-assisted activities and therapies are gaining more attention as beneficial therapy options for people with physical, developmental, and emotional difficulties. Horses can perceive minute changes in people through body language, tone of voice, and even biochemistry.

A study done called “Effectiveness of Therapeutic Riding on Social Skills of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder” published in the Journal of Education and Learning concluded that horseback riding improves the social skills of children with autism spectrum disorder significantly.
